HMS Sirius 1780

The HMS Sirius was originally designed as a Merchantman first named Berwick but was acquired by the British navy and completed as a 10 gun sixth Rate ship. She was the Flagship for the First Fleet in 1788. She was a heavy ship and was therefore the slowest, considering that she was loaded with many of the supplies, due to her deep hull. After the main Voyage, she also had a couple of trips between Norfolk Island along with the HM Supply, until she was struck by a storm and sank in Norfolk Island in 1790.

My model here was originally designed to be seen from a distance, and not to be closeup. as was originally stated by my then Boss, ” We are not showing from onboard the decks, but from the shoreline.” The Model was designed for basic animation and features a separate Rudder. Research for this model came in the form of some drawings, reference from a few selected models, and was based off a similar design for the HMS Pandora, which closely resembled the vessel, from the same period.
